Kid Kart Rules

Kid Karts (local class)

Age 4 to 8

This is a training class (kinder garden) and it is not intended for competition.

The class is for young racers with little or no experience to learn kart control, line-ups, race starts, and proper reactions to various flags, track safety and more.

Drivers will be in a simulated weekly race on the track. Drivers will receive awards, but will not accumulate championship points.

If driver shows improvement, Track or parent(s) may graduate the driver to an upper class at anytime during the racing season.

Engines will be restricted to no more than 3800 RPM

 

Drivers

  1. Maximum 8 yrs old. Drivers over 8 may compete with track official approval.
  2. Must have serviceable fire extinguisher in pit.

Frames

  1. Fun-kart, custom built or production frames allowed. (Quarter Midget cars OK)
  2. No aluminum or titanium material.
  3. Engine can be mounted behind or beside the seat (sidewinders OK)

Body

  1. Bodies are optional.
  2. May resemble any production or race type vehicle.
  3. Fiberglass, aluminum, or steel bodies.
  4. Wings roof or front allowed. Top wing sides must stay within 3” from outer most edge of kart No sharp edges.  Top wing size 3’x3’x 16” sideboard.

Bumpers and nerf bars

  1. Front and rear bumpers required of Max. 1" O.D. tubing. Not to exceed outside tread width of tires.
  2. Bumpers and nerf bars must have rounded or capped ends. No sharp edges.

Roll cage and seat belts

  1. Minimum 4-point cage with 3" head clearance. NO conduit cages allowed.
  2. Cage must be constructed of steel no smaller than 3/4" O.D.
  3. Roll cage must be securely welded or bolted to frame.
  4. Minimum 4-point seat belt. Aluminum racing seat is recommended.
  5. Right side cage net, right side helmet support or a helmet restraint is mandatory.

Wheels and tires

  1. Any wheel or tire allowed.
  2. Grooving allowed. 

Brakes

  1. Brakes must be capable of stopping kart within a safe distance

Drive train

  1. Live axle only
  2. Chain guard required
  3. Centrifugal shoe clutch or belt-drive
  4. No wet or disc-type clutches allowed

Engine

  1. Low horsepower 4 cycle engines only (safe and slow). Harbor Freight has 6.5hp  engines for $159.00 if this fits in your budget.
  2. Engine will be restricted to no more than 3800 RPM. This is for safety! So please no more than 3800RPM.
  3. No modifications of any kind must be completely OEM stock.

Fuel

  1. Fuel is restricted to gasoline only 87% octane.

Their discretion is final.
