Texas Winged 600 Sprint Cars Rules

AGE REQUIREMENT

  1. Drivers 14 years of age with no exceptions.  Certified copy of birth certificate is required yearly.
  2. At his sole discretion, the Race Track Promoter has the authority to permit an underage driver to participate in this class.

ROLL CAGE

  1. Roll cages shall be at least 1-inch .062 wall thickness, or 1 1/8 inch .065 wall thickness, or 1 ¼ inch .065 wall thickness.
  2. Roll cage shall be made of chromoly steel or equivalent material.
  3. The front section of the cage shall be no further back than the steering wheel.
  4. Roll cage shall have sufficient fore and aft bracing and strength to support the weight of the car and driver in case of an upset.
  5. Cage shall have gussets at the intersecting bars to the uprights.
  6. Bends must have at least 3-inch radius.
  7. No square or pointed corners allowed.
  8. Roll cage must be a minimum of 3 inches above the driver’s helmet.
  9. It is mandatory to install a cross brace behind the seat to support the shoulder harness.

BUMPERS AND NERF

  1. Cars must have bumper extending beyond the front and rear tires.
  2. Nothing may extend beyond a tangent line from the outside edge of the tires to the bumpers.
  3. Nothing may extend beyond the outside edge or the tires or wheels, whichever is the widest.
  4. No sharp corners or designs as to hook or damage.
  5. All cars must be equipped with nerf bars.
  6. Nerf bars must extend to inside edge of tires, but not beyond the outside of tire.

ELECTRIC AND ELECTRONICS

  1. On and off switches must be on dash, top of the cowl or on steering wheel.
  2. On/off switch must be connected and functional.
  3. No two way radio communication is allowed with the driver.
  4. RaceCeiver will be mandatory in 2010.

BATTERY

  1. All wet cell batteries mounted in the cockpit must be covered and vented outside the cockpit area.

FUEL

  1. No traction control.
  2. No telemetry systems.
  3. Data logging systems (i.e. Mychron) are OK.
  4. Methanol or Ethanol only. Fuel subject to be checked anytime by officials. NOTE: Fuel samples may be taken for analysis and prize money may be withheld until results are known. (Penalty for fuel infraction will result in forfeiture of all points and moneys won during event detected, and a fine up to $250.)
  5. No performance enhancing fuel additives will be allowed.
  6. Top end lubricants are allowed.
  7. FUEL BLADDERS ARE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED (bladder or a safety cell mandatory in 2010)

ENGINE

  1. Engine 600cc 4 cylinder 4 stroke as comes on a stock production bike for public sale in the U.S.A. No current year production engines.
  2. Except as noted, all internal and external engine parts must remain stock with no modifications, metal removal, blueprinting.
  3. Valve seat inserts may be reworked. Valve springs may be shimmed with standard or aftermarket shims.
  4. Cylinder head combustion chambers may be cleaned by bead blasting with valves seated in place.
  5. Cylinder head gaskets may be replaced only with original equipment manufacturer’s stock parts (All 3 layers of the head gasket must be used). All other gaskets may be replaced with duplicate aftermarket parts.
  6. Light cleaning of gasket surfaces with steel wool, Scotch-Brite, etc. is allowed.
  7. Transmission gears may be shimmed only for the purpose of proper engagement. Standard or aftermarket shims may be utilized.
  8. Aftermarket cam chain tensioner allowed for safety of motor.
  9. Fuel injection engines may run carburetors. Injected with power commander allowed gas or alcohol. No timing modules allowed. Fuel injection engines running carburetors may change all fuel metering devices to tune fuel curve, Billet intake boots allowed.
  10. Modification of oil pan & pick up allow allowed or aftermarket ok.
  11. Modification to thermostat cover allowed or aftermarket ok.
  12. Modifications to water pump cover allowed or aftermarket ok.
  13. Any air box, stock appearing CDI, aftermarket washable replacement air filter, power commander on fuel injection models only.
  14. Any 600cc OEM CV carburetors (no flat slides allowed).
  15. Fuel cell securely mounted. Tank used for qualifying heats must remain for all events.
  16. No flammable liquids allowed in cooling systems.
  17. No cockpit adjustments of any kind.
  18. Wings: 10 square ft. max, left sideboard 24” x 48”, right sideboard 18” x 48”, nose wing 18” x 24” max.
  19. Weight Rule: Wing Micro Sprint 750 lbs., including driver, at the conclusion of the race.
  20. Loss of any bolt-on weight during competition will disqualify the individual from that event.

CHASSIS SPECS

  1. Any micro sprint chassis is allowed, but it must pass any test prescribed by the safety inspectors.
  2. The roll cage must be of a four-post design.
  3. No elliptical (oval shaped) tubing used on or as part of the main frame structure.
  4. Minimum wheel-base of 50 inches, maximum wheel-base of 70 inches.
  5. Fuel cell securely mounted. Tank used for qualifying heats must remain for all events.
  6. No flammable liquids allowed in cooling systems.
  7. Bumpers and nerf bars are mandatory and must be securely mounted.
  8. No aluminum frames, rear bumpers or nerf bars.
  9. Aluminum front bumpers are allowed.
  10. Nerf bars must not be outside of tires.
  11. Steel, aluminum or titanium brake rotors only.
  12. No hollow, tubular or drilled out bolts allowed.
  13. Any cars with a frame that does not enclose the front axle must have the front axle tethered with “seat belt” material that is securely attached.
  14. The right side opening of body must be a minimum of 10 inches vertical at any point.

TIRES AND WHEELS

  1. Right Rear Hoosier Racing Tire, stamped ASCS2/NMMA tire must test with a durometor 50, all classes.
  2. Beadlocks recommended on all wheels.

PROTEST FEES

  1. Motor tear down (heads off) and cylinders inspected: $500.
  2. P & G fuel test $200.
